- Akon (né Alioune Thiam) est un chanteur de RnB né le 14 octobre 1981 au Sénégal où il a vécu jusqu'à l'âge de 7 ans. Par la suite il est parti s'installer aux Etats-Unis, à Jersey City, New Jersey. Akon parle anglais et wolof mais pas le français contrairement à ce que certains pourraient penser au vu de son pays natal.
Jusqu'à présent, il a sorti deux albums : 'Trouble' et 'Konvicted', chacun contenant respectivement les hits "Locked Up", "Lonely", Bananza (Belly Dancer) pour son premier opus et "Smack That", et "I Wanna Love You" pour le second album.

Akon rose to fame in 2004 following the release of his single "Lonely" from his debut album Trouble. His second album, Konvicted, earned him a Grammy Award nomination for the single "Smack That". He is the founder of both Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution. Other sources have said his name is simply Alioune Badara Thiam.
